March 2018 Updates from Teamworthy Ventures

SeatGeek Partners With NFL in League's New Approach to Ticketing - SeatGeek is becoming a distribution partner of the National Football League, putting the mobile-first startup alongside larger rivals Ticketmaster and StubHub in the league’s new approach to ticketing. “Our goal has been to prove to teams that they will benefit from being open, as opposed to the closed, legacy systems,” said SeatGeek co-founder Russ D’Souza. “Now the largest league in the world is embracing the concept, and we’re thrilled to be part of that network.” The new approach to ticketing allows NFL franchises to sell in more places, all while keeping data from the transactions, which is important for both security and fan outreach. Many in the ticket industry consider it the future of the marketplace, and the NFL is the first U.S. sports league to embrace it with all of its teams. For SeatGeek, the deal moves it alongside the industry’s biggest companies for access to NFL inventory. Football fans will be able to buy tickets instantaneously and transfer them seamlessly through the SeatGeek site -- all with the guarantee that the ticket is real and hasn’t been double-sold. Learn more about SeatGeek Enterprise

Restaurant group B.GOOD selects Toast for its data accessibility, integration capabilities, and cloud-based enterprise management - Toast, the all-in-one restaurant technology platform and one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the U.S., today announced its partnership with B.GOOD, an international fast-casual restaurant concept serving fresh, locally sourced “food with roots.”  Toast is the restaurant management platform for all 50+ B.GOOD North America locations. “Data quality was the primary reason we started looking for a new POS system; our former provider didn’t offer the kind of data access needed to grow with our business,” says Austin Brinson, B.GOOD’s  vice president of analytics. “There were a lot of options in the market, but very few that were aligned with our focus on data and integrations. Toast was different. Toast allows us to take our reporting a couple levels deeper - transforming the data into actionable insights.” Request a demo of Toast's all-in-one restaurant POS

How Boxed Is Carving Out Space in a Crowded Ecommerce Market - Boxedpegs itself as the online wholesale club for millennials who live in cities that want the benefits of buying in bulk but don’t want to necessarily pay a membership fee (or drive to one of those centers). Huang pointed to the company’s growth in Texas, where many residents own cars and can drive to these wholesale clubs—but they aren’t. “This is a time and patience problem,” Huang said. “What [these customers] don’t have is increasingly the time and patience to access wholesale savings.” Boxed’s numbers are proving that its customers—and the company—might be onto to something. Despite a limited product selection of about 1,600 items, the average order value of a box is $100, with eight to 10 items per order. While shipping costs are top of mind for Huang, the large basket size and automated fulfillment center help drive shipping costs down. For brands coming to Boxed’s platform, Huang touts the company’s ability to close the ROI loop as well as providing demographics and a consumer’s path to purchase data as well. “Brands are now coming into Boxed to spend on a cost per click platform that we built ourselves,” Huang said. Get essentials that fit your budget, delivered to your company for free with Boxed for Business

Virtru Launches Data Protection Platform to Combat Perimeter Security Failures - Virtru, a trusted provider of data protection and data privacy solutions to more than 8,000 organizations, today launched the Virtru Data Protection Platform. The Virtru platform allows enterprises and government agencies to easily secure and share their most sensitive data while maintaining control over who can access their content. Where traditional approaches provide offer porous walls around company systems or checkbox solutions that are too difficult for practical use, Virtru provides an easy-to-use alternative that protects enterprise data wherever it’s shared. “Breaches like Sony, the DNC, and countless others are proof the most the $100 billion cybersecurity industry is selling snake oil,” said John Ackerly, CEO of Virtru.  “It’s either checkbox compliance, designed for a bygone era when all your information could be safely locked down inside your firewall, or it’s too difficult for practical use. We’ve taken a different approach -- we protect corporate data wherever it travels. And we make it easy enough for real humans to use.” The Virtru Data Protection Platform allows authorized users to easily protect and control sensitive information regardless of where it’s been created, stored or shared. Contact the Virtru team to learn more

How RaiseMe Makes Colleges Affordable Through Your Achievements - RaiseMe, a website and mobile app, allowed Charline to freely discover and compare colleges, publish her achievements, and explore the scholarships some colleges were willing to award her for ‘each core class, activity, or dual enrollment’ she picked up in high school. Through RaiseMe, she was also able to compare college requirements and acceptance rates. “Every night that I stayed up doing homework…I wanted to give up but…I could not because I have a goal…to reach,” she said when she was interviewed as a part of RaiseMe’s #StudentSpotlight series. Charline earned $27,653 towards college tuition and she now attends Barry University in Miami, Florida. She wants to become a paediatrician. Learn more about how RaiseMe can help your college or university

Income Share Agreements: A Student Loan Alternative - Purdue University, a public land grant university in West Lafayette, Indiana, has distributed about $2 million to 160 students via its Back-a-Boiler ISA program, which started in 2016. Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Clarkson University, in Potsdam, New York — both private institutions — have started ISA programs more recently. All three are working with Vemo Education to design and implement their ISA program. Kevin James, founder and CEO of Better Future Forward, which works with another nonprofit, College Possible, to help low-income students afford college through ISAs, doesn’t buy the criticism of ISAs. “We think of ISAs as a progressive financing tool that basically align payments with ability to pay,” says James. And after graduation a student with an ISA has the freedom “to do what they like with their life … to make the choices they want to make,” says James noting that is is not necessarily the case for students who have taken out loans. They have to find a way to make their loan payments. Learn more about how Vemo Education can help your college or university

Carta Study on Employment Tenure at Startups - Carta (formerly eShares) helps private companies and employees gain visibility into equity ownership. With the anonymous data we collect, we’re uniquely positioned to demystify employee tenure trends. We hope this analysis provides meaningful insights for founders, managers, employees, and candidates. As expected, job tenure at startups is lower than job tenure in other industries. For the US economy broadly, the median length workers stay with their current employer is 4.2 years (US Bureau of Labor Statistics). The median tenure for startup employees is just 2.0 years. Read the full report then request a demo

MM.LaFleur Atlanta pop-up offers workwear for busy women who hate to shop - In 2013, Sarah LaFleur hoped to make the process easier when she founded MM.LaFleur, a web-based clothing brand designed to help women find work appropriate clothing with minimal effort. Unlike subscription boxes that combine a range of brands into a box based on preferences, MM.LaFleur offered its Bento Box, a curated collection of four to six proprietary designs for professional women on the go. Also unlike a subscription boxes, the Bento Box is not a subscription. There is no commitment. Customers can request a box whenever they need a wardrobe update. Though she never intended to take the brand into a brick and mortar environment, when LaFleur began hosting pop-ups in New York City sales exploded overnight. Several internet-breaking styles later, the company opened additional showrooms in Chicago and Washington, DC and pop-up locations in six more cities including the Atlanta Pop-up which opened March 5 at the Shops Buckhead Atlanta. Book an appointment at an MM.LaFleur shop

Kidpreneur Maddy Birch Builds Business Selling Used Lacrosse Equipment Online - Birch, a 16-year-old high school student, originally heard about SidelineSwap from her brother a couple years ago. But at the time she didn’t think much of it. Then when she was looking to earn a little extra income this year, she thought about all the expensive lacrosse goalie equipment she had in her garage. Birch said in a phone interview with Small Business Trends, “In the past I had just gone to Play It Again Sports or a store like that [to trade in the equipment], and I was just sick of getting only like $30 back on a $100 helmet. I thought about using Craigslist, but it was too broad and it can be unsafe. So then I remembered my brother had told me about SidelineSwap.” After making her first sale, Birch was pleased with the return on her investment and the relative ease of the process. So she kept going. Since then, she’s made about $1,930 from selling 15 different pieces of equipment to buyers on the site. Buy and Sell on SidelineSwap
