July 2018 Updates from Our Entrepreneurs

RaiseMe's Next Chapter - Community colleges have long been critical stepping-stone institutions for many students across America.  But community college students, many of whom fall under low socioeconomic status, are at a higher risk of dropping out or stopping out while in school. According to research from The College Board, though 80% of community college students intend to transfer to a four-year college, yet only 25% successfully transfer of the population successfully does, and just 17% eventually graduate within six years. With RaiseMe for Transfers, students at community colleges nationwide will now have the opportunity to concurrently earn micro-scholarships towards their four-year college of their choice while pursuing their Associate’s degrees — just like millions of high school students have already done before them. Join the RaiseMe team

Interview with Eric Kinariwala, CEO of Capsule, a next-generation pharmacy that is here to make your life simpler and healthier - "At Capsule, the promise we make to our customers is “everybody needs some looking after sometimes” — that we’ll make your life easy and anticipate your needs. We work hard every day to translate that to how we operate internally and how the team looks after one another. It’s that alignment between how we internally operate the business and treat each other and externally with how we deliver on our promise to our customers that makes Capsule special. Insurance pricing for medication is opaque and complicated. Our “looking after” promise to our customers means that our team proactively lets them know what we know, what we don’t know (and anticipate they’ll want to know), and a timeline for next steps so they’re not left guessing when they’ll hear from us again. Similarly, when we’re launching a new product internally, our product managers provide the same kind of context to our team — what we built, how we’re going to measure success, and when we’re going to measure it. In this way, our team feels looked after by our product managers — like no stone has gone unturned — and is thereby able to internalize this level of confidence to drive trust and confidence in our relationships with our customers." Join the Capsule team

Factual Case Study: Twin Peaks Wins at Game Time with Location Data - Twin Peaks, a chain of sports bars and restaurants, was looking to drive avid sports fans who enjoyed watching sports while eating and drinking to their restaurants. To increase foot traffic, Twin Peaks’ agency of record, The Infinite Agency partnered with Adobe Advertising Cloud for a highly-targeted campaign across mobile, tablet, and desktop, featuring pre-roll video creative. The campaign targeted sports enthusiasts aged 21-54 through contextual, behavioral, and geo-targeting strategies. Using Factual’s Geopulse Audience, they created a custom ‘Twin Peaks’ Restaurant Diners’ segment reaching users who had recently visited a Twin Peaks restaurant. They also leveraged Geopulse Proximity to geofence Twin Peaks’ locations to reach nearby users in real-time with dayparting to deliver relevant messaging (i.e. lunch vs dinner). Factual’s placements outperformed the overall CTA by 2x and overall campaign goal CTR by 3x, reporting a Factual placement CTR of 0.95%. Factual’s placements also earned a higher VCR of 70%, compared to the overall VCR of 67%. The CTR goal for this campaign was .23%, the overall CTR reported was 0.5%. Join the Factual team

Space53 Partners with AirMap to Bring UTM to the Netherlands - Local industries and governments in the East Netherlands are empowering commercial drone applications to benefit their communities and economy. Space53, a site for the safe development, testing, and research of unmanned systems, is partnering with AirMap to experiment and analyze different UTM (UAS traffic management) solutions. The partnership aims to support growing demand for commercial drone applications in the Netherlands. Space53 and AirMap are deploying a simple procedure for registering and monitoring drone flights in local Dutch airspace. Airspace controllers, local municipal officials, and managers of critical infrastructure will be able to manage UAS activities via the AirMap UTM Dashboard. Pilots can request automated flight authorization from airspace controllers, who manage these requests and monitor ongoing operations directly from the cloud-based dashboard. Join the AirMap team

Norwich University launches Income Share Agreement Program - Norwich University, the oldest private military college in the United States, today announced a new income share agreement initiative aimed at improving affordability, student retention, and degree completion. Beginning in fall 2018, Norwich undergraduate students will have the opportunity to opt into an innovative financing model in which they will pay reduced tuition in exchange for a set percentage of income after graduation over a set period of time. "Norwich University is committed to offering this new way to help pay for college in a way that aligns incentives and helps reduce financial barriers to degree completion," Norwich University Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer Lauren Wobby said. "The new Norwich ISA program has the potential to increase educational access and attainment for our students." To develop its ISA program, Norwich tapped Vemo Education, a Virginia-based education technology company that works with higher education institutions to design, implement, and maintain income share agreement initiatives. Last year, Vemo powered $23 million of ISAs at a cross-section of colleges and universities across the country, including Purdue University, Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania, and Clarkson University in New York. "In many cases, the college degree remains a prerequisite for social and economic mobility -- but rising costs and questions about affordability often lead students to underinvest in their higher education or not finish their degree program," said Tonio DeSorrento, Co-founder and CEO of Vemo Education. "Income share agreements can address this challenge, supporting college-going aspiration among the students who can benefit the most from higher education." Learn more about Income Share Agreements and Vemo Education
